STEM Coach Bios
Tanya Dickens has been married to James Dickens for 19 years. James and Tanya have three daughters and two sons. They are active members of Life Community Church and extremely passionate about homeschooling. They speak at local and State homeschool conferences on marriage and homeschooling.
Tanya is the President of STEM Prep Academy, Inc. and NC Triad Robotics. She and her mom, Sibyl Davis, own Savor the Moment Bakery, LLC in High Point. She has served as Treasurer for North Carolinians for Home Education, the state's oldest and largest statewide homeschool support organization, for the past six years. She has also served on the board of High Point Home Educators ("HPHE"), a local homeschool co-op, for five years, and served as its president from 2013-2016. In addition to being a Board member at HPHE, she taught Cooking Made Simple and Culinary Passport for three years. She has also taught cooking classes through a City of High Point recreation center as well as The Greater High Point Food Alliance, an organization that advocates for and teaches healthy eating habits to residents living in many food deserts in High Point. Tanya taught these residents how to create delicious and healthier recipes from local food bank food boxes. In one of this organization's fundraising events in 2016, "Can You Cook It, Too?", she won the People’s Choice Award after competing with three other local chefs. She is also certified in food handling and safety.
Her interests include anything that allows her an opportunity to serve others or be creative. She enjoys upcycling and repurposing furniture that she finds at local thrift stores, cooking, baking and spending time with her family.
Angelica Duncan is a devoted wife and mother of five children. As a Home Educator, she is committed to the pursuit of the development of the whole child. She holds a Bachelor's and Master of Science degrees in Engineering. She worked in the engineering industry for about 5 years. Afterwhich, she became a mathematics educator and later a Curriculum and Testing Coordinator, serving for a total of ten years, in the public school system. It was through classroom instruction, where she fed her passion for mathematics, science, engineering, creativity, and teaching. She likes to combine both traditional and non-traditional approaches to teaching and learning, by striving to serve her students with Godly excellence.
Suzette Diaz is a wife and mother of three. She lives in High Point, where she and her husband have owned family business for the past five years Jump 'N Fun. She enjoys business ownership, as it has allowed her to use her life experiences by interacting with people from various cultures and backgrounds. She holds a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Mathematics from Roanoke College. As a high school teacher, Suzette taught a variety of math courses including Algebra, Geometry & Pre-calculus. She is looking forward to partnering with you as your child’s S.T.E.M Prep Tutor. She hopes to build relationships with the parents and students and become an extension of your homeschool culture.
Mrs. Davis is a mother and grandmother who has been sewing since she was 8 years old. Mrs. Davis is an amazing seamstress, who can constructs entire garments by hand-stiching or by a sewing machine. She has worked as wedding designer, creating everything from wedding dresses, veils, bridal bouquets, etc. She has also worked with a fashion designer as a seamstress for his fashion shows, and a seamstress for local gospel groups, tailoring suits for both men and women. She is also skilled in making custom drapes and upholstering furniture. She enjoys her craft and the opportunity to share her knowledge with others.
Jackie is a Liberty University Graduate with a Bachelor’s degree that specializes in both education as well as computer management. She has been programming websites for 12 years and creating visual projects with video on professional editing suites for 13 years. She and her husband Ryan have been married for 16 years and they homeschool 4 children ranging from 15 to 4 years of age. Being a pastor’s wife, she has a natural desire to be around people and a heartfelt passion to make a difference in the community. Having been a Christian for 15 years, inside she longs to give back and serve others. Jackie loves to pass on her love of learning with technology to anyone who will listen of any age.
Kenya Perkins married her college sweet heart, Terrell, over 15 years ago. Currently they reside in North Greensboro and have five beautiful children ages ranging from two to thirteen.
Kenya holds a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a Minor in English and has taught in the public school system for over five years in the states of Illinois and Michigan. Her husband, an Electrical Engineer and MBA Graduate, convinced her to start homeschooling their children in 2003. Together they are the founders and owners of a small technology business. Their children are also entrepreneurs, each one having a passion to utilize their gifts and talents from writing to technology based business ideas. Kenya and Terrell also started a marriage ministry outreach to disciple and encourage couples to have godly healthy marriages.
Kenya has a passion for teaching kids in a fun creative way that encourages and inspire young minds to be innovators as they learn and discover through hands on play experiences. The purpose of her class is to create a learning environment that engages young children and help them to see themselves as the ones who will be designing the future.
During Kenya's free time you can find her passionately reading, cleaning, genuinely serving her neighbors, seeking out new friendships and encouraging others to follow Christ.
Sandy Franks is the wife of Chris Franks and the mother of 5 children ages 15-4. Together she and Chris have been homeschooling their children for 11 years.
Sandy received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Speech Language Pathology at the University of Tennessee. She worked professionally as a therapist for twelve years in various settings including private practice, long term care, and serving children (birth to 3 yrs.) and their families.
She enjoys all things food! From growing it, to reading about it, to talking about it, to cooking it, and especially sharing it with others! She also loves working on friendships, mountains and trails to hike, great books read aloud, and games played with family and friends.
She considers the opportunity to spend time with your kids discovering the gift of science through God’s amazing creation both an honor and a privilege.
Heather Waldridge graduated Cum Laude from the University of North Carolina Charlotte in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education. She still participates in graduate level classes to keep up with new teaching practices. She has taught 4th – 8th grade students over the course of her career as a public school teacher.
Heather’s husband, Ashely is an Aeronautical Engineer at Honda jet. They live in High Point with their four boys, ages 5-11. Being a stay at home mom has taken Heather out of the traditional classroom, but she’s still finding ways to teach, because that is what she loves to do. She teaches preschoolers in Awana on Wednesday nights and in Sunday School on Sunday mornings. She loves interacting with the young people, because their unique personalities and varying learning styles make teaching enjoyable for her. Her goal in teaching is to see students enthusiastically learn whatever is presented to them.
Christie is married to Lewis Cheatham Jr. and they have 4 children: Chelsea 10 years old, Malachi 8 years old, Ashley 5 years old, and Jeremiah 3 years old. 2016-2017 is their sixth year of homeschooling. A graduate of Louisburg College and NC State University, Christie has a BS in Accounting. Through further studies at Liberty University Online Christie has taken courses in Biblical Studies. Christie also serves as an Associate Minister and leader of the Women’s Fellowship at Friendship Baptist Church in Greensboro. Christie enjoys cooking, taking walks, and gardening, "especially seeing the seeds planted, sprout, grow, and produce vegetables and fruits, bringing nourishment to us & others, just as I see the seed of obedience to God to homeschool our children".
Doris is the first person in her family to become a pilot. She has been flying since she was in high school at 14 years old, aviation has been her passion ever since. Since then, she has flown approximately 6000 hours. She became a certified flight instructor in 1998 and a Commercial airline pilot in 2000. She took a break from the airlines for a time after her first daughter, but continued flight intructing.
Doris last flew for a small airline in Alaska until moving here to North Carolina this summer. Doris taught aviation at a homeschool co-op in Alaska from 2015-2016. She is excited to continue sharing her passion for aviation here in the Triad.
